The Weekend
Warrior
The term Weekend Warrior is used for non-professional athletes who love sports and
can't wait until the weekend so they can get out and compete. Weekend Warrior could
also be used for people who get over zealous with their list of chores too. You don't have
to wait until the weekend to be a Weekend Warrior. Now that the days are getting longer
people get out and do more after they get home from work too. This urge to get outside
and do something can be so great that many people forget to stretch, use proper lifting
techniques, or warm-up properly. This leads to injuries that could make you miss out on
your sports for a couple of weeks or even miss work.
As a chiropractor, I see a lot of people with low back and neck pain. When I take their
patient history and ask them about their injury we try to get to the cause of the pain or
injury. The pain is usually caused by either an old or a new sports injury. The sports
injury that I see the most is a sprained ankle. Statistics show that 80% of people who

participate in any kind of physical activity from walking to playing a full contact sport will sprain an ankle sometime in there life. This statistic goes on
to say that if they don't properly rehabilitate their ankle there is between a 90-95% chance they will get low back pain.
I was an athlete in high school and college so I know all about sports injuries. I still golf, play competitive softball, and compete in various 5K runs
and I am training for my first triathalon. A sports injury actually got my career in chiropractic started. If you would like to read that whole story go
back to my home page and click on Meet the Doctors. I have continued my chiropractic education by taking a 1 year certified chiropractic sports
physician course. It is officially called Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner offered by the
American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.
This better allows me to diagnose and treat sports injuries as well as being able to become a sideline doctor for any level of sports team.
