Athlete Enhancement
Enhancing athletic performance can be done in a variety of ways. Some things that I focus on are improving the athlete's
strength in both balance and end range of motion and increasing their agility, foot speed and quickness. The tools that I
utilize to improve these aspects in an athlete are agility ladders, polly spots, mini-hurdles, mini-trampolines, swiss gym
balls, wobble boards, power cords and various sports specific equipment. Check out the pictures below to grasp an idea of
what some of the workouts consist of.
The Key To Life Is Balance
|
The best way to build muscle for athletics is to lift weights in a state of imbalance. The gym ball and/or wobble board workouts are very basic
workouts that you can do at home within a half an hour. The most advanced way to build strength for athletics would be to do a dumbbell workout
for some muscle groups and a theraband tubing workout for other muscle groups while standing on the gym ball. This gives you a superior sense of
balance and strength.
For those of you who only believe in the old school way of lifting I have put together a workout that uses free weights and benches. The added
benefit of my workout is the change in daily routine and position you lift in. While I was at UW-LaCrosse I volunteered to be in various weight lifting
studies and creatine studies. I was also on the track team as a pole vaulter for a while. This is an example of the workout that worked best for me
and most athletes on the football, wrestling, track, and baseball team.
